Philadelphia needed just one inning to erase a four-run hole, the Cubs put up a nine-run eighth in a 19-run rout of Seattle, and a 15-game MLB Wednesday closed out with the week's last NFL preseason game.

St. Louis Cardinals, 4 — Philadelphia Phillies, 6. Philadelphia (73-58) trailed 4-0 entering the bottom of the ninth, then scored six runs to walk it off — the Cardinals hadn't allowed a run since the seventh.

Chicago Cubs, 19 — Seattle Mariners, 2. Chicago led just 6-2 through seven innings before a nine-run eighth blew the game open. The Cubs (75-56) out-hit Seattle (62-69) 17-7 on the night.

Athletics, 7 — Houston Astros, 6. Down 6-1 after four innings, Oakland answered with a six-run fifth and held on to beat Houston (65-66) on the road.

  • Cincinnati Reds, 3 — Arizona Diamondbacks, 5. Down 3-0 after Cincinnati's third-inning runs, Arizona answered with four in the seventh to win it.

NFL Preseason — August 23, 2026 (1 game)

  • Seattle Seahawks 16, Tennessee Titans 19

Seattle Seahawks, 16 — Tennessee Titans, 19. Seattle scored 16 points in the first quarter alone and then went scoreless the rest of the way. Tennessee's 3-6-0-10 line by quarter was enough to pull off the comeback and close out the week's preseason schedule.

  • MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at Seattle Mariners, 9:40 PM ET. Philadelphia (73-58) looks to carry the momentum from last night's ninth-inning comeback into Seattle, which was routed 19-2 by the Cubs a night ago.
