Wednesday belonged to New York. The Knicks walked into San Antonio and walked out with Game 1 of the NBA Finals, 105-95, behind a late Brunson surge and a steady Karl-Anthony Towns double-double. Out west, Shohei Ohtani threw a shutout. Fifteen MLB games filled in around it, the NHL board went dark for the second night running ahead of Stanley Cup Final Game 2 Thursday in Raleigh.
NBA — Finals, Game 1
New York Knicks, 105 — San Antonio Spurs, 95. New York stole home court in the Finals opener. Jalen Brunson closed it late, Karl-Anthony Towns went for 18 and 12 to anchor the glass, and Victor Wembanyama's 26-and-12 wasn't enough for San Antonio. Series: NY leads series 1-0. Game 2 goes Friday in San Antonio.
NHL — No games
The NHL board was dark for the second straight night. Stanley Cup Final Game 2 tips Thursday in Raleigh, Vegas up 1-0 after stealing the opener.
MLB — Fifteen-game Wednesday board
A full Wednesday slate. Two shutouts up top, a wild slugfest in Houston, and Ohtani's nationally-televised gem at Chase Field closes the night.
Los Angeles Dodgers, 7 — Arizona Diamondbacks, 0. Shohei Ohtani threw a shutout in Phoenix, his ERA down to 0.74 on the season.
Chicago White Sox, 8 — Minnesota Twins, 0. Chicago pitched a shutout in Minneapolis, the cleanest line on the AL board.
Boston Red Sox, 8 — Baltimore Orioles, 1. Boston piled it on Baltimore at Fenway, the night's biggest one-sided AL East line.
Detroit Tigers, 7 — Tampa Bay Rays, 2. Detroit handled Tampa Bay by five, backing up Tuesday's shutout.
New York Mets, 7 — Seattle Mariners, 1. The Mets snapped Seattle's eight-game win streak with a 6-run statement in the Pacific Northwest.
Atlanta Braves, 7 — Toronto Blue Jays, 3. Atlanta took the home series finale by four.
Houston Astros, 11 — Pittsburgh Pirates, 9. Houston out-slugged Pittsburgh at Daikin Park, the night's biggest counting line.
Los Angeles Angels, 11 — Colorado Rockies, 4. The Angels hung eleven in Anaheim, answering Tuesday's loss to Colorado.
Kansas City Royals, 5 — Cincinnati Reds, 2. Kansas City took the road game in Cincinnati by three.
Cleveland Guardians, 5 — New York Yankees, 4. Cleveland edged the Yankees in the Bronx by one, taking the Prime Video window.
Oakland Athletics, 5 — Chicago Cubs, 4. Oakland edged the Cubs at Wrigley by one.
St. Louis Cardinals, 5 — Texas Rangers, 3. St. Louis took the rubber in the home series by two.
Miami Marlins, 4 — Washington Nationals, 1. Miami took the day opener in Washington by three.
Philadelphia Phillies, 3 — San Diego Padres, 2. Philadelphia edged San Diego by one in the TBS national window.
San Francisco Giants, 1 — Milwaukee Brewers, 0. A 1-0 pitcher's duel, the tightest finish on the slate.
What to watch tonight
