Wednesday turned on overtime. Colorado completed one of the harder comebacks in the modern playoff format — down 3-0 in the series, the Avalanche won three straight and closed it out 4-1 in OT to reach the Western Conference Finals. Cleveland needed extra minutes too, taking Game 5 in Detroit by four to lead the East semis 3-2. MLB ran a full 15-game Wednesday slate with Shohei Ohtani putting up another zero in LA.

NHL Playoffs — Colorado finishes the rally, books the Western Conference Finals

One game, one ticket punched. The Avalanche had lost three of the first four and were the team facing elimination 11 days ago; tonight they were the team advancing.

Colorado Avalanche, 4 — Minnesota Wild, 3 (OT). Colorado wins Game 5 by one in overtime to take the West 2nd Round 4-1 and reach the Western Conference Finals. Brett Kulak's overtime goal capped a stunning rally back from 3-0 down in the series after Nathan MacKinnon tied it late in regulation. Minnesota's run ends in the second round.

NBA Playoffs — Cavs flip the East semis in OT

A 2-2 series became a 3-2 series in the back half of overtime. Cleveland is now one win from the Eastern Conference Finals.

Cleveland Cavaliers, 117 — Detroit Pistons, 113 (OT). Cleveland wins Game 5 by four in overtime to lead the East Semifinals 3-2. James Harden led the Cavaliers with 30 points and 6 assists, Cade Cunningham went for 39 in the loss, and Donovan Mitchell scored 5 points in 10 seconds during overtime to settle a back-and-forth finish. Detroit now needs Games 6 and 7 to advance.
