Thursday put both NBA road favorites in 2-0 holes. Detroit took Game 2 in Cleveland to go up 2-0 in the East semis, Oklahoma City flattened the Lakers in Los Angeles to do the same in the West, and Carolina pushed Philadelphia to the brink of a sweep. Ten MLB games went final, with the Athletics hanging 12 on the Phillies and the Cardinals winning 2-1 on the road for the night's tightest finish.
NBA Playoffs — Pistons and Thunder both go up 2-0
Two Game 2s, two road teams up 2-0. Detroit grabbed home court in Cleveland, and OKC made it look easy in Los Angeles.
Detroit Pistons, 107 — Cleveland Cavaliers, 97. Detroit wins by 10 in East semifinals Game 2. Cade Cunningham put up 25 points and 10 assists, and Donovan Mitchell led Cleveland with 31 in the loss. Detroit leads the series 2-0.
Oklahoma City Thunder, 125 — Los Angeles Lakers, 107. Oklahoma City wins by 18 in West semifinals Game 2. Austin Reaves had 31 for the Lakers in the losing effort, and Lakers head coach JJ Redick said the team felt "disrespected" by the officiating after the game. Oklahoma City leads the series 2-0.
NHL Playoffs — Canes one win from a sweep
One game on the Thursday board. Carolina took care of business at home and now sits one win away from advancing.
Carolina Hurricanes, 4 — Philadelphia Flyers, 1. Carolina wins Game 3 of the East second round. Penalties and a quiet Flyers power play decided it. Carolina leads the series 3-0.
MLB — 10 games go final
Ten games on the Thursday board. The Athletics put up the night's biggest number, and the Cardinals pulled out the night's tightest finish on the road in San Diego.
New York Yankees, 9 — Texas Rangers, 2. New York wins by seven at home.
Washington Nationals, 7 — Minnesota Twins, 5. Washington wins by two on the road.
Cleveland Guardians, 8 — Kansas City Royals, 5. Cleveland wins by three on the road in an AL Central matchup.
Chicago Cubs, 8 — Cincinnati Reds, 3. Chicago wins by five at home.
Colorado Rockies, 6 — New York Mets, 2. Colorado wins by four on the road in the makeup of a May 5 postponement.
Pittsburgh Pirates, 4 — Arizona Diamondbacks, 2. Pittsburgh wins by two on the road.
Oakland Athletics, 12 — Philadelphia Phillies, 1. Oakland wins by 11 at home in the night's biggest blowout.
Miami Marlins, 4 — Baltimore Orioles, 3. Miami wins by one at home in a one-run finish.
Tampa Bay Rays, 8 — Boston Red Sox, 4. Tampa Bay wins by four at home in an AL East matchup.
St. Louis Cardinals, 2 — San Diego Padres, 1. St. Louis wins by one on the road in the night's tightest MLB game. Masyn Winn delivered an RBI triple to put the Cardinals ahead, and Alec Burleson added a solo homer.
