Wolves close out Denver. Knicks rout Atlanta 140-89. Sixers force Game 7 in Boston. Ducks finish Edmonton 4-2. Phillies walk off Giants in DH opener.
Thursday was Game 6 night across two leagues. Minnesota and Anaheim both finished off division rivals to take their West first-round series, the Knicks blew the doors off Atlanta, the Sixers stole one in Boston to force Game 7, and the Phillies walked off the Giants in the opener of a doubleheader.
NBA Playoffs — Wolves and Knicks advance, Sixers force a seventh game
Three Game 6s. Minnesota and New York close out series. Boston's three chances to finish Philadelphia run out.
Minnesota Timberwolves, 110 — Denver Nuggets, 98. Minnesota wins the series 4-2. Jaden McDaniels posted 32 points and 10 rebounds to finish off Denver and send the Wolves to round two. The Nuggets came in with home-court back, dropped Game 6 by 12, and head into the offseason after a first-round exit.
New York Knicks, 140 — Atlanta Hawks, 89. New York wins the series 4-2. The Knicks closed it out by 51 in Atlanta — a series-ending score line that does not happen often. New York moves on; the Hawks go home.
Philadelphia 76ers, 106 — Boston Celtics, 93. Series tied 3-3. The Sixers won by 13 at home and forced Game 7 back in Boston. Boston had a chance to close out in Philadelphia and dropped it; the Celtics still hold home court for a winner-take-all.
NHL Playoffs — Ducks knock out McDavid, Wild finish Dallas
Two Game 6s. Both home teams advance, both series end 4-2.
Anaheim Ducks, 5 — Edmonton Oilers, 2. Anaheim wins the series 4-2. The Ducks finished the Oilers 5-2 at home to advance out of round one. Edmonton, the higher seed coming in, is out in six.
Minnesota Wild, 5 — Dallas Stars, 2. Minnesota wins the series 4-2. The Wild took Game 6 by three at home to clinch. Dallas had pushed it back to Minnesota with a Game 5 win and could not extend the series here.
MLB — Brewers crush Arizona, Phillies sweep a doubleheader, Astros split with Baltimore
Eleven games on the Thursday board, including two doubleheaders.
Milwaukee Brewers, 13 — Arizona Diamondbacks, 1. Milwaukee wins by 12 at home in a 14-run game. The Brewers piled on Arizona for the night's biggest margin.
Houston Astros, 11 — Baltimore Orioles, 5. Houston wins by six in the doubleheader nightcap. The Astros split a 10-3 / 11-5 twin bill in Houston.
Baltimore Orioles, 10 — Houston Astros, 3. Baltimore wins by seven in the doubleheader opener. The Orioles took the first half before Houston flipped the script in the second.
St. Louis Cardinals, 10 — Pittsburgh Pirates, 5. St. Louis wins by five on the road in a 15-run game. The Cardinals piled on in Pittsburgh.
Minnesota Twins, 7 — Toronto Blue Jays, 1. Minnesota wins by six at home. The Twins handled Toronto in a six-run game.
Philadelphia Phillies, 6 — San Francisco Giants, 5. Philadelphia wins by one in the doubleheader nightcap. The Phillies completed the sweep of the twin bill after taking the opener 3-2.
Cincinnati Reds, 6 — Colorado Rockies, 4. Cincinnati wins by two at home. The Reds held off Colorado in a tight finish.
Athletics, 6 — Kansas City Royals, 3. Oakland wins by three at home. The A's took the opener over Kansas City.
Detroit Tigers, 5 — Atlanta Braves, 2. Detroit wins by three on the road. The Tigers handled the Braves in Atlanta.
Washington Nationals, 5 — New York Mets, 4. Washington wins by one on the road. The Nationals edged the Mets in a one-run finish.
Philadelphia Phillies, 3 — San Francisco Giants, 2. Philadelphia wins by one in the doubleheader opener. ESPN noted the Phillies walked off the Giants to take Game 1 of the twin bill.

Friday is another Game 6 night across the NBA and NHL.
- NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Houston Rockets, 9:30 PM ET on Prime Video. Game 6. LA leads 3-2 and tries to close out on the road; Houston needs the home win to force Game 7 in Los Angeles.
- NHL: Tampa Bay Lightning at Montreal Canadiens, 7:00 PM ET on ESPN2. Game 6. Original Six matchup with Montreal up 3-2 and one win from the second round.
- NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers at Toronto Raptors, 7:30 PM ET on Prime Video. Game 6. Cleveland leads 3-2 and looks to finish the Raptors in Toronto.
- NHL: Buffalo Sabres at Boston Bruins, 7:30 PM ET on ESPN. Game 6. Buffalo is up 3-2 and tries to close out in Boston.
- MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis Cardinals, 8:15 PM ET on MLB.TV. Sheehan vs. Liberatore in the night's marquee MLB matchup.
