Rockets stun the Lakers in LA. Cavs grab series lead in Toronto. Pistons climb back. Texier OT winner for Montreal. Vegas wins in double-OT. Nationals 14, Mets 2.

Wednesday belonged to the road dogs. Houston stole one in LA to flip home court, Cleveland did the same in Toronto, and Detroit climbed all the way back to take the series lead in a 3-1 hole. The NHL got two overtime Game 5s and one closeout — Montreal won in OT, Vegas needed double-OT, and Philadelphia shut out Pittsburgh in Game 6 to advance. Thirteen MLB games on the board, headlined by Washington's 14-2 rout of the Mets.

NBA Playoffs — Rockets stun LA, Cavs flip Toronto, Pistons claw back

Three Game 5s. All three road teams won. Every series now sits at 3-2 with the leader heading to the road for Game 6.

Houston Rockets, 99 — Los Angeles Lakers, 93. Los Angeles leads the series 3-2. Jabari Smith Jr. dropped 22 points and 7 rebounds as Houston held LA to 93 in a low-scoring grind. The Lakers had a chance to close out at home up 3-1 and missed it; the series heads back to Houston for Game 6 with the Rockets one win from forcing Game 7.

Cleveland Cavaliers, 125 — Toronto Raptors, 120. Cleveland leads the series 3-2. The Cavs took Game 5 by five on the road in a 245-point night to flip a 2-2 series. Game 6 heads back to Toronto with the Raptors one loss from elimination.

Detroit Pistons, 116 — Orlando Magic, 109. Detroit leads the series 3-2. The Pistons climbed all the way back from a 3-1 hole and now sit one win from advancing. Game 6 heads to Orlando with the Magic facing elimination at home.

NHL Playoffs — Texier OT, Vegas double-OT, Flyers finish Pittsburgh

Two overtime Game 5s and one Game 6 closeout. Montreal and Vegas both won in extra time; Philadelphia shut out the Penguins to finish the series.

Montreal Canadiens, 3 — Tampa Bay Lightning, 2 (OT). Montreal leads the series 3-2. Alexandre Texier broke a tie 1:06 into the third period and the Canadiens held on through overtime to grab series lead. Game 6 heads back to Montreal with Tampa one loss from elimination.

Philadelphia Flyers, 1 — Pittsburgh Penguins, 0. Philadelphia wins the series 4-2. The Flyers shut out the Penguins at home in Game 6 to finish the series and advance to Round 2. One goal, one zero, season over for Pittsburgh.

Vegas Golden Knights, 5 — Utah Mammoth, 4 (2OT). Vegas leads the series 3-2. The Knights needed two overtimes to take a 5-4 win at home and flip a 2-2 series. Game 6 heads to Utah with the Mammoth one loss from elimination.

MLB — Nationals crush Mets, Rockies pile on Reds, two rainouts in the East

Thirteen games on the Wednesday board after Houston-Baltimore and San Francisco-Philadelphia were postponed by weather and slid to Thursday doubleheaders.

Washington Nationals, 14 — New York Mets, 2. Washington wins by 12 on the road in a 16-run game. Cade Cavalli took the win for the Nationals; David Peterson took his fourth loss for the Mets. The blowout flips a series the Mets won 8-0 the night before.

Colorado Rockies, 13 — Cincinnati Reds, 2. Colorado wins by 11 on the road. The Rockies piled on Cincinnati for the night's second-biggest margin and answered Tuesday's 7-2 loss in Cincinnati with a rout.

Toronto Blue Jays, 8 — Boston Red Sox, 1. Toronto wins by seven at home. The Blue Jays followed Tuesday's shutout with another lopsided win to take the series.

Arizona Diamondbacks, 6 — Milwaukee Brewers, 2. Arizona wins by four on the road. The Diamondbacks answered Tuesday's 13-2 thumping in Milwaukee with a four-run road win.

Oakland Athletics, 5 — Kansas City Royals, 2. Oakland wins by three at home. The A's flipped Tuesday's 4-1 loss with a home win over the Royals.

Chicago Cubs, 5 — San Diego Padres, 4. Chicago wins by one on the road. A tight one-run finish in San Diego went the Cubs' way.

Seattle Mariners, 5 — Minnesota Twins, 3. Seattle wins by two on the road. The Mariners take the series in Minnesota.

St. Louis Cardinals, 5 — Pittsburgh Pirates, 4. St. Louis wins by one on the road. A one-run game in Pittsburgh went the Cardinals' way.

Atlanta Braves, 4 — Detroit Tigers, 3. Atlanta wins by one at home. The Braves edged Detroit in a tight finish.

Texas Rangers, 3 — New York Yankees, 0. Texas shuts out New York at home. A three-zero column line as the Rangers blanked the Yankees.

Cleveland Guardians, 3 — Tampa Bay Rays, 1. Cleveland wins by two at home. The Guardians answered Tuesday's 1-0 loss with a tight home win.

Miami Marlins, 3 — Los Angeles Dodgers, 2. Miami wins by one on the road. The Marlins took the back end of the Dodger series with another one-run win in LA.

Chicago White Sox, 3 — Los Angeles Angels, 2. Chicago wins by one at home. The White Sox edged the Angels in a one-run finish.

Thursday is close-out night across the playoffs.
