Spurs finish Portland 4-1. Brunson drops 39 as Knicks rout Atlanta. Sixers stay alive in Boston. Draisaitl forces Game 6. 15 MLB games on the board.
Tuesday was Game 5 night. San Antonio finished off Portland to clinch the next round-one series, the Knicks ran Atlanta out of the Garden, the Sixers stole one in Boston, and Edmonton forced a Game 6 behind Draisaitl. Fifteen MLB games rounded out the slate.
NBA Playoffs — Spurs advance, Knicks rout Atlanta, Sixers steal one in Boston
Three Game 5s. San Antonio closes out, New York runs away with it, and Philadelphia stays alive on the road.
San Antonio Spurs, 114 — Portland Trail Blazers, 95. San Antonio wins the series 4-1. The Spurs put Portland away by 19 at home and become the next team out of round one. Portland never got the road win it needed to push the series back home.
New York Knicks, 126 — Atlanta Hawks, 97. New York leads the series 3-2. Jalen Brunson dropped 39 points and 8 assists as the Knicks blew Atlanta out by 29 at the Garden. Game 6 heads back to Atlanta with the Hawks one loss from elimination.
Philadelphia 76ers, 113 — Boston Celtics, 97. Boston leads the series 3-2. The Sixers won by 16 in Boston to push the series back to Philadelphia for Game 6. Boston had a chance to close out at home and dropped it; the Celtics still hold series lead but no longer hold home court advantage in Game 7.
NHL Playoffs — Edmonton forces Game 6, Buffalo and Minnesota fall short of close-outs
Three Game 5s. Edmonton survives elimination, Boston steals one in Buffalo, and Minnesota grabs the series lead in Dallas.
Edmonton Oilers, 4 — Anaheim Ducks, 1. Anaheim leads the series 3-2. Leon Draisaitl scored twice as Edmonton handled Anaheim 4-1 at home to force Game 6. The Oilers had been down 3-1 and now head back to Anaheim still alive.
Boston Bruins, 2 — Buffalo Sabres, 1. Buffalo leads the series 3-2. The Bruins took Game 5 by one on the road to push the series back to Boston for Game 6. Buffalo had a chance to close out at home and lost a one-goal game.
Minnesota Wild, 4 — Dallas Stars, 2. Minnesota leads the series 3-2. The Wild took Game 5 by two on the road to grab series lead in a 2-2 series. Game 6 heads back to Minnesota with Dallas one loss from elimination.
MLB — Brewers pile on Arizona, Mets shut out Washington, Phillies blank San Francisco
Fifteen games on the Tuesday board, three of them shutouts.
Milwaukee Brewers, 13 — Arizona Diamondbacks, 2. Milwaukee wins by 11 at home in a 15-run game. The Brewers piled on Arizona for the night's biggest margin.
New York Mets, 8 — Washington Nationals, 0. New York shuts out Washington at home. Eight runs and a zero on the board for the Mets.
Philadelphia Phillies, 7 — San Francisco Giants, 0. Philadelphia shuts out San Francisco at home. The Phillies took the opener 7-0 with the Giants held off the board.
Cincinnati Reds, 7 — Colorado Rockies, 2. Cincinnati wins by five at home. The Reds put Colorado away comfortably.
Toronto Blue Jays, 3 — Boston Red Sox, 0. Toronto shuts out Boston at home. The Blue Jays answer Monday's Boston shutout with one of their own.
St. Louis Cardinals, 11 — Pittsburgh Pirates, 7. St. Louis wins by four on the road in an 18-run game. The Cardinals piled on Pittsburgh in the late innings.
Atlanta Braves, 5 — Detroit Tigers, 2. Atlanta wins by three at home. The Braves take the opener over Detroit.
Baltimore Orioles, 5 — Houston Astros, 3. Baltimore wins by two at home. The Orioles edge Houston in a tight finish.
Chicago White Sox, 5 — Los Angeles Angels, 2. Chicago wins by three at home. The White Sox take the opener over the Angels.
Seattle Mariners, 7 — Minnesota Twins, 1. Seattle wins by six on the road. The Mariners answer Monday's 11-4 loss with a six-run win in Minnesota.
Chicago Cubs, 8 — San Diego Padres, 3. Chicago wins by five on the road in an 11-run game. The Cubs flip the script after Monday's 9-7 loss in San Diego.
Kansas City Royals, 4 — Oakland Athletics, 1. Kansas City wins by three on the road. The Royals take the opener in Oakland.
New York Yankees, 3 — Texas Rangers, 2. New York wins by one on the road. The Yankees beat deGrom on the bump in Texas in a tight one-run game.
Tampa Bay Rays, 1 — Cleveland Guardians, 0. Tampa shuts out Cleveland on the road. A one-run, ten-zero column line for the Rays.
Miami Marlins, 2 — Los Angeles Dodgers, 1. Miami wins by one on the road. The Marlins flip the late window after the Dodgers won Monday's 5-4 finish.
What to watch tonight
Wednesday is close-out night.
- NBA: Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Lakers, 10:00 PM ET on ESPN. Game 5. LA leads 3-1 and gets a chance to close out at home; Houston needs a road win to push it back.
- NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers, 7:30 PM ET on TNT. Game 6. Philadelphia leads 3-2 and looks to finish the Penguins on home ice.
- NBA: Toronto Raptors at Cleveland Cavaliers, 7:30 PM ET on ESPN. Game 5. The night's only NBA series tied 2-2, with home court swinging back to Cleveland.
- MLB: Miami Marlins at Los Angeles Dodgers, 3:10 PM ET on MLB.TV. Sandy Alcantara faces Tyler Glasnow in the LA afternoon.
- NHL: Montreal Canadiens at Tampa Bay Lightning, 7:00 PM ET on ESPN2. Game 5. Series tied 2-2 with home court back in Tampa.
