Thursday's 13-game MLB card was headlined by a Cardinals rout at Wrigley, a Colorado offensive showing at Coors, and a tight Dodgers-Padres finish in the late West Coast game. The NHL and NBA are in their offseasons.
MLB — Thursday, July 3
St. Louis Cardinals, 17 — Chicago Cubs, 1. The night's marquee game and it wasn't close. A. Pallante earned the win at Wrigley Field as St. Louis poured it on from the jump. The Cardinals put up 17 runs against Chicago's pitching staff and never let the Cubs into the game. One of the more lopsided results you'll see at Wrigley this year.
Colorado Rockies, 15 — San Francisco Giants, 3. Coors Field being what it is. The Rockies put up 15 at home against San Francisco, winning going away by 12. The Giants couldn't contain Colorado's offense through the middle innings.
Miami Marlins, 12 — Athletics, 5. Miami put up 12 in Oakland, taking the game convincingly. The Marlins' offense had no trouble with the Athletics' pitching and led comfortably from the middle innings on.
Washington Nationals, 9 — Pittsburgh Pirates, 5. Washington ran up nine against Pittsburgh at home, taking the game by four.
Milwaukee Brewers, 7 — Arizona Diamondbacks, 4. Milwaukee won on the road in Arizona, putting up seven to take the game by three.
Atlanta Braves, 5 — New York Mets, 3. Atlanta held on at Truist Park, winning 5-3 against New York in the evening game.
Boston Red Sox, 5 — Los Angeles Angels, 2. Boston took the road game in Anaheim, winning 5-2.
New York Yankees, 5 — Minnesota Twins, 2. New York took care of Minnesota at Yankee Stadium, winning 5-2 in the evening matchup.
Baltimore Orioles, 3 — Cincinnati Reds, 0. The Orioles posted a shutout in Cincinnati, holding the Reds off the board completely. Baltimore held its 3-0 lead through the final out.
Cleveland Guardians, 4 — Chicago White Sox, 3. A one-run game at Progressive Field. Cleveland held on for the close win over Chicago.
Tampa Bay Rays, 3 — Houston Astros, 1. Tampa Bay won the road game in Houston, 3-1.
Los Angeles Dodgers, 4 — San Diego Padres, 3. The late West Coast closer. Los Angeles edged San Diego by one run at Dodger Stadium, taking the night's tightest finish.
Toronto Blue Jays, 2 — Seattle Mariners, 0. Toronto shut out Seattle at T-Mobile Park, winning 2-0 on the road.
What to watch tonight
Fifteen games on the Independence Day card. FOX carries a double-header at 8:08 PM ET, and the late closer brings the Padres back to Los Angeles.
- MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs, 8:08 PM ET on FOX. The clubs go right back at it a night after St. Louis dropped 17 on Wrigley. FOX national game on the holiday.
- MLB: New York Mets at Atlanta Braves, 8:08 PM ET on FOX. The NL East rivals square off at Truist Park in FOX's second Independence Day game.
- MLB: San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers, 10:10 PM ET. Yoshinobu Yamamoto takes the mound for Los Angeles against Griffin Canning in the West Coast closer. The Dodgers are favored at -252.
