Pirates bury the Athletics 12-4 and Marlins thump the Phillies 12-4 in the night's biggest MLB margins. Mets rout the Reds 9-1. NBA and NHL seasons are over.
Wednesday belonged to baseball, and to a pair of 12-run beatdowns. Pittsburgh hung 12 on the Athletics and Miami did the same to Philadelphia, the two widest margins on a full 15-game board. The Mets backed it up with a 9-1 rout of the Reds in the National League. With the Knicks and Hurricanes already crowned, MLB carried the night on its own.
MLB — Fifteen-game Wednesday board
A full Wednesday slate that ran on a stack of NL blowouts, a couple of double-digit slugfests in the American League, and one one-run finish on the West Coast.
Pittsburgh Pirates, 12 — Athletics, 4. Pittsburgh buried the Athletics by eight in one of the night's two biggest margins.
Miami Marlins, 12 — Philadelphia Phillies, 4. Miami matched the night's high with twelve, beating Philadelphia by eight at loanDepot park.
New York Yankees, 10 — Chicago White Sox, 5. The Yankees outslugged the White Sox by five in the AL East / AL Central matchup.
Milwaukee Brewers, 9 — Cleveland Guardians, 4. Milwaukee handled Cleveland by five in the NL Central / AL Central crossover.
New York Mets, 9 — Cincinnati Reds, 1. The Mets held the Reds to a single run, winning by eight.
Arizona Diamondbacks, 8 — Los Angeles Angels, 1. Arizona ran away from the Angels by seven in the interleague matchup.
Chicago Cubs, 8 — Colorado Rockies, 6. Chicago took the NL Central / NL West game by two over Colorado.
San Francisco Giants, 7 — Atlanta Braves, 2. San Francisco beat Atlanta by five in the first of two between the clubs.

San Diego Padres, 6 — St. Louis Cardinals, 1. San Diego held the Cardinals to one run, winning by five.
Kansas City Royals, 6 — Washington Nationals, 2. Kansas City handled Washington by four in the AL Central / NL East matchup.
Baltimore Orioles, 5 — Seattle Mariners, 3. Baltimore took the AL East / AL West game by two over Seattle.
Los Angeles Dodgers, 5 — Tampa Bay Rays, 4. A one-run finish, the Dodgers edging Tampa Bay by a single run.
Houston Astros, 4 — Detroit Tigers, 2. Houston took the interleague-feeling AL matchup by two over Detroit.
Toronto Blue Jays, 3 — Boston Red Sox, 0. A clean shutout in the AL East — Toronto held Boston to zero.
What to watch tonight
Baseball runs the board again Thursday with a full nine-game slate, headlined by the Mets visiting Philadelphia in an NL East matchup and a Yankees-White Sox rematch in the Bronx. The Giants-Braves rubber game is set as a rain makeup for Aug. 31. Full details in the Tonight preview.
