Reds bury the Mets 12-0 and the Athletics rout the Pirates 11-2 to headline a 10-game MLB Monday. Phillies blank the Marlins 7-0. NBA and NHL are done for the year.
Monday belonged to the bats in Cincinnati and Sacramento. The Reds buried the Mets 12-0 and the Athletics ran away from the Pirates 11-2, the two widest margins on a 10-game MLB board, while the Phillies tacked on a 7-0 shutout of the Marlins. The rest of the slate tightened up late, with three of the last games decided by a single run. Baseball had the calendar to itself: the Knicks closed out the NBA Finals on June 13 and the Hurricanes lifted the Stanley Cup on June 14, leaving both leagues in the offseason.
