Vegas rallies from 4-0 down, wins Cup Final Game 3 5-4 in 2OT to lead 2-1. Astros drop 13 on the A's. Two MLB shutouts. Cubs walk off Giants in 10.
Saturday belonged to the desert. Vegas dug out of a 4-0 hole and stole Stanley Cup Final Game 3 from Carolina 5-4 in double overtime, Shea Theodore burying the winner to push the series to 2-1. The NBA board was dark before Finals Game 3 Monday at MSG. Fourteen MLB games filled the rest of the night, headlined by a 13-run Astros line in Houston, a pair of road shutouts on the AL board, and a Pete Crow-Armstrong two-homer night that walked off the Giants in 10 at Wrigley. Rain wiped out Red Sox-Yankees in the Bronx.
NHL — Stanley Cup Final, Game 3
Vegas Golden Knights, 5 — Carolina Hurricanes, 4 (2OT). The Golden Knights rallied from a 4-0 deficit, with Carolina tying it late in regulation before Shea Theodore put it home in the second overtime. Series: VGK leads series 2-1. Game 4 is Tuesday in Las Vegas — Carolina now needs to flip a series it once had on the ropes.
NBA — No games
The NBA board was dark, the scheduled off-day after Knicks-Spurs Finals Game 2 on Friday. New York leads the series 2-0 with Game 3 set for Monday at Madison Square Garden.
MLB — Fourteen-game Saturday board, one rainout
A full Saturday slate minus the Bronx, where rain wiped out Red Sox at Yankees (makeup set for August 29). Houston hung the night's biggest line, the Guardians and Mariners both pitched road shutouts, and Pete Crow-Armstrong's two-homer night carried the Cubs to a 10-inning walk-off over the Giants.
Houston Astros, 13 — Athletics, 2. Houston ran away with it at Daikin Park, the night's biggest counting line by six runs.
Los Angeles Dodgers, 9 — Los Angeles Angels, 2. The Dodgers handled their Freeway Series neighbors at home by seven, evening the series at one apiece after Friday's Freeman walk-off.
Milwaukee Brewers, 7 — Colorado Rockies, 1. Milwaukee took a six-run road win at Coors, a rare quiet night at altitude.
Cleveland Guardians, 6 — Texas Rangers, 0. Cleveland blanked the Rangers in Arlington, the night's most lopsided shutout.
Washington Nationals, 6 — Arizona Diamondbacks, 1. Washington won a third straight in Phoenix, by five.
Atlanta Braves, 6 — Pittsburgh Pirates, 3. Atlanta took the second of the home series over Pittsburgh by three.
Chicago White Sox, 6 — Philadelphia Phillies, 3. The White Sox flipped Friday's loss to take Game 2 of the series at Citizens Bank by three.
Toronto Blue Jays, 6 — Baltimore Orioles, 4. Toronto evened the AL East series at home by two after Friday's blowout loss.
Seattle Mariners, 4 — Detroit Tigers, 0. Seattle blanked Detroit on the road, four shutout innings of work from the Mariners staff.
Miami Marlins, 4 — Tampa Bay Rays, 3. Miami flipped the Florida series with a one-run home win.
St. Louis Cardinals, 6 — Cincinnati Reds, 5. A one-run NL Central tilt in St. Louis, the Cardinals taking the rubber by one.
Kansas City Royals, 3 — Minnesota Twins, 2. Kansas City stole one in Minneapolis, by a single run.
San Diego Padres, 3 — New York Mets, 2. San Diego edged the Mets at home by one in the late West window.
Chicago Cubs, 3 — San Francisco Giants, 2 (F/10). Pete Crow-Armstrong belted two home runs and the Cubs walked off the Giants in the 10th at Wrigley, the only extra-innings game on the board.
Postponed: Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees — rain, makeup August 29.
