Friday belonged to Carolina. The Hurricanes closed out Montreal 6-1 in Game 5 to win the Eastern Conference Final 4-1 and book their first Stanley Cup Final trip in two decades. The NBA was dark, waiting on Saturday's Game 7 in Oklahoma City. A full 15-game MLB board followed, headlined by a Randy Arozarena walk-off in Seattle.
NHL — Hurricanes punch their Cup Final ticket
Carolina Hurricanes, 6 — Montreal Canadiens, 1. Carolina closed the Eastern Conference Final in five games, taking the series 4-1 to reach its first Stanley Cup Final in two decades. Frederik Andersen posted a .958 save night as Montreal's season ended. The Cup Final opens June 2.
NBA — No games
The NBA scoreboard was dark Friday. The Western Conference Final is even at 3-3 after the Spurs forced a Game 7, which tips Saturday night in Oklahoma City with a Finals trip on the line.
MLB — 15-game Friday board
A full slate with every team in action. Randy Arozarena's walk-off in extras was the headliner in Seattle.
Seattle Mariners, 7 — Arizona Diamondbacks, 6. Randy Arozarena walked it off in extra innings at T-Mobile Park.
New York Mets, 9 — Miami Marlins, 7. The Mets outslugged Miami in a Queens shootout.
Texas Rangers, 9 — Kansas City Royals, 1. Texas buried the Royals behind a nine-run night in Arlington.
New York Yankees, 8 — Athletics, 2. New York handled the Athletics by six.
Atlanta Braves, 8 — Cincinnati Reds, 3. Atlanta hung eight on Cincinnati.
Tampa Bay Rays, 8 — Los Angeles Angels, 5. Tampa Bay took the opener from the Angels.
Colorado Rockies, 8 — San Francisco Giants, 6. Colorado outscored San Francisco at Coors.
Pittsburgh Pirates, 6 — Minnesota Twins, 5. Pittsburgh edged Minnesota by one.
San Diego Padres, 7 — Washington Nationals, 5. San Diego took the opener in Washington.
Toronto Blue Jays, 6 — Baltimore Orioles, 5. Toronto edged Baltimore by one at Camden Yards.
St. Louis Cardinals, 6 — Chicago Cubs, 5. St. Louis held off the Cubs in an NL Central matchup.
Milwaukee Brewers, 5 — Houston Astros, 4. Milwaukee edged Houston by one.
Cleveland Guardians, 4 — Boston Red Sox, 3. Cleveland edged Boston by one.
Chicago White Sox, 4 — Detroit Tigers, 3. The White Sox edged Detroit by one on the South Side.
Los Angeles Dodgers, 4 — Philadelphia Phillies, 2. The Dodgers opened their West Coast set with a win.
What to watch tonight
Saturday's headliner is NBA West Finals Game 7 in Oklahoma City, winner to the NBA Finals. The NHL is dark with Carolina already through and the Cup Final not until June 2.
