Thursday's headline came out of San Antonio: the Spurs hammered Oklahoma City 118-91 in Game 6 to even the Western Conference Finals 3-3 and send the series to a winner-take-all Game 7 in OKC on Saturday. The NHL was dark waiting on Carolina-Montreal Game 5 Friday. Six MLB games — a Chris Sale gem at Fenway, an Arrighetti masterpiece in Texas, and a Rea-over-Skenes pitcher's duel in Pittsburgh.
NBA — Spurs force Game 7
San Antonio Spurs, 118 — Oklahoma City Thunder, 91. San Antonio took Game 6 by 27 at home to even the Western Conference Finals at 3-3. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Game 7 tips Saturday in Oklahoma City with a Finals trip on the line.
NHL — No games
The NHL scoreboard was dark Thursday. Carolina-Montreal Game 5 is set for Friday night at PNC Arena with the Hurricanes leading the East Final 3-1 and a chance to clinch a Stanley Cup Final trip.
MLB — Six-game Thursday board, three pitching gems
A lighter six-game Thursday slate with most of the league off. Three starts stood out: Chris Sale at Fenway, Spencer Arrighetti in Arlington, and Colin Rea outdueling Paul Skenes in Pittsburgh.
Los Angeles Angels, 7 — Detroit Tigers, 1. The Angels hung seven on Detroit in the series finale at Comerica.
Chicago White Sox, 6 — Minnesota Twins, 2. Davis Martin (8-1, 2.00) kept rolling as the White Sox took the series finale a day after their 15-2 rout.
Atlanta Braves, 10 — Boston Red Sox, 2. Chris Sale dropped his ERA to 2.01 in a 10-2 road rout at Fenway.
Toronto Blue Jays, 2 — Baltimore Orioles, 1. Toronto edged Baltimore by one in the series opener at Camden Yards.
Chicago Cubs, 7 — Pittsburgh Pirates, 2. Colin Rea (5-3, 4.70) outdueled Paul Skenes as the Cubs took the series finale in Pittsburgh.
Houston Astros, 5 — Texas Rangers, 1. Spencer Arrighetti (7-1, 1.34) carried the Astros to the rubber match in Arlington.
What to watch tonight
Friday's headliner is NHL East Final Game 5 in Raleigh with Carolina up 3-1 and a Stanley Cup Final trip on the line. The NBA is dark — Game 7 in OKC is Saturday. A full 15-game MLB Friday slate, with Phillies-Dodgers on Apple TV as the late-night marquee. Full details in the Tonight preview.
