Knicks blow out Sixers 137-98 in East semifinals Game 1. Wembanyama's 12-block triple-double wasn't enough as Wolves edge Spurs 104-102. Canes 2-0 in OT.
Monday opened the NBA semifinals, gave us a Game 2 OT in Carolina, and a 12-game MLB Monday topped by a 12-1 Yankees night in the Bronx. The headline number was 12 — Wembanyama's playoff-record block count in a losing effort.
NBA Playoffs — Knicks blow out Sixers, Wolves steal one in San Antonio
Two Game 1s on the board. The Knicks took home court at MSG by 39, and the Wolves walked out of San Antonio with a two-point win behind a historic Spurs defensive line that wasn't enough.
New York Knicks, 137 — Philadelphia 76ers, 98. New York wins by 39 in East semifinals Game 1. The Knicks held the Garden, controlled the game from the opening tip, and never let it close. New York leads the series 1-0.
Minnesota Timberwolves, 104 — San Antonio Spurs, 102. Minnesota wins by two in West semifinals Game 1. Victor Wembanyama recorded a 12-block triple-double, setting an NBA playoff record for blocks in a single game, and the Spurs still lost a tight one at home. Wembanyama called it "energy mismanagement" after the loss. Minnesota leads the series 1-0.
NHL Playoffs — Canes go up 2-0 in OT, Vegas opens with a contested call
Two games on the Monday board. Carolina took Game 2 in overtime, and Vegas opened the West second round with a controversial finish.
Carolina Hurricanes, 3 — Philadelphia Flyers, 2 (OT). Carolina wins Game 2 of the East second round in overtime. The Hurricanes go up 2-0 in the series with the next two games shifting to Philadelphia.
Vegas Golden Knights, 3 — Anaheim Ducks, 1. Vegas wins Game 1 of the West second round. The Ducks disputed a linesperson's wave-off on icing on the winning goal; head coach Joel Quenneville called it "a huge call" and "an easy call" that should have gone the other way. Vegas leads the series 1-0.
