Last Night in Sports: May 3, 2026
Pistons and Cavs take East Game 7s at home. Canadiens steal Tampa. Avalanche outslug the Wild 9-6. Pirates sweep Cincinnati 1-0 on a 15-game Sunday.
Sunday turned into Game 7 night across two leagues. Both East NBA Game 7s went to the home team, the NHL's last first-round Game 7 ended in Tampa with Montreal on top, and the West second round opened with a 15-goal shootout in Denver. Underneath it all, a 15-game MLB Sunday with a Pirates 1-0 sweep finisher.

Detroit Pistons, 116 — Orlando Magic, 94. Detroit wins the series 4-3. Cade Cunningham orchestrated the offense with 32 points and 12 assists, and Paolo Banchero's 38-point night for Orlando wasn't enough to push the Magic through. The Pistons advance to the East semifinals.
Cleveland Cavaliers, 114 — Toronto Raptors, 102. Cleveland wins the series 4-3. The Cavs held home court in Game 7 and closed out the Raptors by 12 to move on to round two.
NHL Playoffs — Canadiens steal Tampa, Avalanche outslug Wild
Two games on the Sunday board. One last Game 7 in the East, and a wild Round 2 opener out West.
Montreal Canadiens, 2 — Tampa Bay Lightning, 1. Montreal wins the series 4-3. Alex Newhook broke a 1-1 tie with 8:53 left to outlast the Lightning in Game 7 in Amalie Arena. The Canadiens advance to the East second round.
Colorado Avalanche, 9 — Minnesota Wild, 6. Colorado leads the West 2nd Round series 1-0. Game 1 in Denver turned into a 15-goal track meet, with the Avs winning by three after both sides combined for double-digit goals.
MLB — 15-game Sunday led by a Pirates 1-0 sweep finisher

New York Yankees, 11 — Baltimore Orioles, 3. New York wins by eight at home. The Yankees broke open a 14-run game in the Bronx.
Atlanta Braves, 11 — Colorado Rockies, 6. Atlanta wins by five on the road at Coors. The Braves piled on for 11 in a 17-run game.
Chicago Cubs, 8 — Arizona Diamondbacks, 4. Chicago wins by four at home. The Cubs handled Arizona in a 12-run game.
Athletics, 7 — Cleveland Guardians, 1. Athletics win by six at home. Cleveland was held to one in an eight-run game.
Detroit Tigers, 7 — Texas Rangers, 1. Detroit wins by six at home. The Tigers handled Texas in an eight-run game.
Philadelphia Phillies, 7 — Miami Marlins, 2. Philadelphia wins by five on the road in a nine-run game.
New York Mets, 5 — Los Angeles Angels, 1. New York wins by four on the road. The Mets held the Angels to one in a six-run game.
Minnesota Twins, 4 — Toronto Blue Jays, 3. Minnesota wins by one at home. The Twins held off Toronto in a one-run, seven-run finish to split the series.
Los Angeles Dodgers, 4 — St. Louis Cardinals, 1. Los Angeles wins by three on the road in a five-run game.
Kansas City Royals, 4 — Seattle Mariners, 1. Kansas City wins by three on the road in a five-run game.
San Diego Padres, 4 — Chicago White Sox, 3. San Diego wins by one on the road. A one-run, seven-run-margin finish.
Houston Astros, 3 — Boston Red Sox, 1. Houston wins by two on the road at Fenway in a four-run game to take the series.
Washington Nationals, 3 — Milwaukee Brewers, 2. Washington wins by one at home in a five-run, one-run-margin finish.
Tampa Bay Rays, 2 — San Francisco Giants, 1. Tampa Bay wins by one at home on a walk-off to complete the series sweep.
Pittsburgh Pirates, 1 — Cincinnati Reds, 0. Pittsburgh wins by one at home in a one-run shutout to finish off a series sweep of Cincinnati.
What to watch tonight
Monday is series-opener night. The NBA conference semifinals start at MSG and in San Antonio, and the NHL's West second round opens in Vegas.
