Memorial Day delivered a clinch and a turn. New York closed out a 4-0 sweep of Cleveland to punch the franchise's first NBA Finals ticket since 1999, and the Hurricanes ground out an overtime Game 3 win in Montreal to flip the Eastern Conference Final lead. Thirteen MLB games on the holiday board — Houston threw a combined no-hitter and Schwarber kept slugging.

NBA Playoffs — Knicks sweep into the Finals

New York Knicks, 130 — Cleveland Cavaliers, 93. New York finished the job with a 37-point Game 4 rout. Karl-Anthony Towns posted 19 points and 14 rebounds, and Donovan Mitchell led Cleveland with 31 in the loss. New York wins the series 4-0 and heads to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.

NHL — Hurricanes flip the East Final

Carolina Hurricanes, 3 — Montreal Canadiens, 2 (OT). Carolina won Game 3 in overtime in Montreal to take a 2-1 series lead in the Eastern Conference Final. The Hurricanes have won two straight after dropping the opener at home.

MLB — Memorial Day 13-game board, combined no-no in Houston

Thirteen games, no postponements. Four teams sat out (Braves, Tigers, Angels, Red Sox). Houston tossed a combined no-hitter at Daikin Park, Schwarber kept slugging in Philly, and the Yankees walked off the Royals.

Pittsburgh Pirates, 2 — Chicago Cubs, 1. Henry Davis slugged a late go-ahead homer as the Pirates sent the Cubs to a ninth straight loss.

Baltimore Orioles, 9 — Tampa Bay Rays, 7. Baltimore won a slugfest in St. Petersburg.

Chicago White Sox, 3 — Minnesota Twins, 1. Munetaka Murakami homered as the White Sox cooled off the Twins.

Milwaukee Brewers, 5 — St. Louis Cardinals, 1. Jacob Misiorowski was sharp on the mound and Christian Yelich homered.

New York Yankees, 4 — Kansas City Royals, 3. Anthony Volpe's two-run single in the ninth lifted the Yankees.

Cincinnati Reds, 7 — New York Mets, 2. Nick Lodolo got his first win of the season as the Reds extended the Mets' skid to four.

Arizona Diamondbacks, 6 — San Francisco Giants, 2. Ketel Marte went 4-for-4 to help Merrill Kelly win his fourth straight start.

Washington Nationals, 10 — Cleveland Guardians, 2. Curtis Mead went deep twice and the Nationals pounded six homers in the win.

Philadelphia Phillies, 3 — San Diego Padres, 0. Kyle Schwarber hit his MLB-leading 21st home run as Philadelphia shut out the Padres.

Houston Astros, 9 — Texas Rangers, 0. Houston threw a combined no-hitter in the 9-0 win.

Miami Marlins, 8 — Toronto Blue Jays, 2. Joe Sanoja and Kyle Stowers each had two doubles and two RBIs as Miami won its fourth straight.

Los Angeles Dodgers, 5 — Colorado Rockies, 3. Freddie Freeman sparked a four-run seventh as the Dodgers rallied past the Rockies.

Seattle Mariners, 9 — Oakland Athletics, 2. Seattle slugged four homers in the win.

What to watch next

The NBA shifts to the Finals waiting room while the West Finals continues — Thunder-Spurs is tied 2-2 with Game 5 in Oklahoma City. Vegas can sweep the Avalanche in Game 4 at home. A 15-game MLB Tuesday slate on deck.
